Fury season ends in sectional semifinal

The Rock County Fury were conference champions again this year, but came one game short of the game that could have gotten them back to State. Onalaska, coming back from a 2-0 deficit, defeated the Fury 4-3 on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Edwards Ice Arena in Beloit.

Penalties forced the Fury to play on the defensive for most of the third period when they were trying to score the tying goal. Mya Maslonka almost made it happen with a breakaway at the 1 minute mark that was deflected wide by the Onalaska goalie.

Despite the loss, the Rock County Fury are a tight group. They have to be, since they are a co-op team made up of girls from nine schools in the area, as far west as Monroe and south to Beloit and even into Illinois. Their unity was on display even in defeat, as the girls hugged and consoled each other following their tough loss.

Four of their number are Craig students.
