One of the highlights of Homecoming Week is the pep assembly.
This year’s assembly took place on Friday, Oct. 17, in the main gym. As students arrived after their 8th hour classes, they were greeted by the pep band playing its greatest hits, from “Cleveland Rocks” to “Louie, Louie.”
After students arrived and took their places in the bleachers with their classmates, the band played the school song, “Go, You Craig Cougars.” This signalled the start of the pep assembly.
The assembly, a celebration of Craig’s community and school spirit, is also a festival of spirit games.
The hula hoop race requires students to clasp hands as they send a hula hoop around their human circle. The first team to 10 revolutions wins. This year it was the seniors.
The relay race is a fierce competition involving human wheelbarrow, high heel run, mattress flopping, and bubble-gum blowing. The administrator inflatables race was a new addition this year.
The tug of war, always the most passionate of the competitions, was won by the seniors.
The cheer team, step team, and poms team performed. One of the dance routines included members of the football team.
A surprise flash mob delighted the students, who rushed from the stands to join the dance.
The football team sang the school song and Coach Brannan gave a motivational speech.
The festivities concluded with the crowning of the king and queen. Students voted and selected Alexis Hanson to be this year’s queen and KK Karanja to be king.
