Craig swimmers headed to State

Craig will be represented at the WIAA Division 1 state swim meet, which takes place on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Waukesha South High School starting at 3:30.

At the sectional meet in Milton on Saturday, Nov. 6, juniors Ally Donagan and Dakota Reece qualified for the state swim meet.

Three of their four times were school records.

Donagan qualified for the 200 and 500 freestyles. Reece qualified for the 50 and 100 freestyles.

In the 50 free, Reece was 4th at sectionals with a school-record time of 24.35. She also broke a school record in the 100 free in taking 4th at sectionals. Her time was 53.30.

Donagan also established a new school record in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.29. Her time placed her 6th at sectionals.

She also qualified in the 500 free, taking 5th at sectionals with a time of 5:09.28.

“Her 500 freestyle time is just one second off the school record,” said coach Jen Punzel.

Reece is seeded 14th in the 50 free and 15th in the 100 free. Donagan is seeded 9th in the 500 free and 18th in the 200 free.

The state meet awards medals to the top six finishers in each event. Despite being seeded outside of the top six in their events, the swimmers’s seed times are close to medal contention.

Donagan is four seconds off a podium time in the 500 free. Reece is less than a second out of the top six and a half-second off podium time in the 50 free.
