Cougar boys win regional semifinal over rival Middleton

The Cougars boys basketball team used aggressive defense, sharp outside shooting, and tough inside play to defeat the Middleton Cardinals 61-52 on Friday, Mar. 1.

It was the opening playoff game for both teams.

The win handed Middleton a season-ending loss on their home floor, and it was the Cougar’s second straight victory over their Big 8 rivals. Middleton defeated Craig in December, 67-54. After a narrow 45-43 win over the Cardinals at home on Feb. 9, the Cougars won the third game by nine points.

Unfortunately, their postseason run ended there. The next night they lost to Madison LaFollette 94-74.

But LaFollette, who was the highest remaining seed in the sectional following upset losses by the state’s #1 ranked team Madison East and second-seeded Racine Park, lost to Sun Prairie in the sectional final.

Sun Prairie returns to state for the second year in a row. Last year they lost to Brookfield East in the semifinals.
