Craig’s Homecoming Week is here. The annual week of dress-up days and decorated halls is a celebration of school spirit. This year’s week runs from Tuesday, Oct. 1 through Saturday, Oct. 7. The weeks is shorter than those in years past because students did not have school on Monday, Sept. 30. Still, many club members showed up to decorate parade floats and hallways on Monday.
Homecoming Week kicked off on Tuesday with the dress-up theme of barbeque dads vs. soccer moms. Many students participated and stood out in their creative outfits. As is tradition, seniors have their own dress up themes during Homecoming Week. Tuesday was for togas.
Wednesday’s theme was frat vs sorority. Students are encouraged to team up with their friends in a creative effort to make their own sorority or fraternity. For seniors, the theme is “dress as a character.”
Thursday is the classic color wars dress up day. Each grade will have their own colors to represent their class. Students should make an effort to show off their grade by wearing the colors of their grade: green for freshmen, yellow for sophomores, red for juniors, and blue for seniors.
The Homecoming parade is also happening on Thursday afternoon. Classes will be shortened to 32 minutes. The parade will start on the south side of the school building then travel north and east down Randall, and south down Ruger. The band will lead the way. The parade will consist of 21 clubs and sports along with members of Homecoming court.
Friday is school spirit day.On Friday, students are encouraged to wear Cougar gear or all blue to show off their school spirit. The art department will offer face painting. Friday classes are shortened for the pep assembly and inflatables.
At Friday’s pep assembly, classes will play games to compete for the spirit stick. Some teachers will be recognized for their years of service, and the 1974 football team will be remembered. The Homecoming King and Queen will also be announced. This year there are 30 queen nominations and 21 king nominations.
Following Friday’s pep assembly, students will have the chance to play on inflatables and watch the powderpuff football game. Members of the Letterwomen’s club will play. The varsity football game kicks off on Saturday at 11 AM at Monterey Stadium. The opponent is Madison Memorial.
Homecoming Week concludes with the dance starting at 7 PM. The dance theme is “Enchanted Forest.” Tickets to the dance are $10
