The Craig High School art department is always up to something; consequently, a lot of good work goes unnoticed.
This early into the year, you would think that the art department would have a limited amount of excellent artwork to display, but the prolific artists of Craig High School have proved us wrong.
Mrs. McFadden, an art teacher specializing in 2D art and photography, provided some fantastic insight into the curriculum of some art classes and what is happening within them.
Mrs. McFadden teaches Art 1, an intro to art’s many facets. They began with a project involving many art mediums, as they created a hand-sown sketchbook.
This project was bound to include a variety of exciting techniques, as students had to use different paper decoration techniques to create each page in the sketchbook.
Mrs McFadden also teaches Photography 1, where her students have learned what exposure is and how to operate a camera. Mrs. McFadden also teaches AP 2D, her most prolific class by far, and she has two fantastic art pieces to share.
One of the pieces is by Elise May, which was made digitally. Elise also shared another art piece from her AP 2D class.
According to Elise, the assignment was to create and include a painted ribbon in an art piece. Elise states, “The ribbon I painted circles around the portrait, acting as a picture frame.” It all comes together to create a beautiful and well-composed piece.
Abagail Slinde created a hand-illustrated physical art piece, which Mrs. McFadden described as “the most adorable animal/human duo.” Abi’s art piece, aside from being very vibrant and animated, shows clear signs of style and understanding of the principles of art.
If you would like to see more student artwork, visit Mrs. McFadden’s Instagram page. If you are a Craig student who is interested in taking an art class, Mrs McFadden urges you to do so.
“If students are interested in art, I will always suggest students take Art 1 as soon as they’re able!” Says Mrs. McFadden, “If students only have room for 1 semester of art in their schedule Drawing 1 is a great pick and still offers a little variety while honing the skill of drawing!”
Although it is very early in the year, Craig’s Art department has already produced lots of fantastic art, much more than what was showcased in this article.
Craig’s students and teachers should look forward to following Craig’s art department as they continue to produce more amazing art.
