WIAA XC Sectional Meet: Bloomquist wins, Leverson and girls qualify for state
On October 20th at the Kettle Moraine Sectional in Nagawaukee Park, the Craig Cougars girls and boys cross country teams competed for state qualification. The girls came out second to Sun Prairie and the boys landed Brian Bloomquist and Aaron Leverson into the individual qualification spots.
Brian Bloomquist won the Boys Varsity race by 14 seconds with a time of 16:03. Aaron Leverson placed 4th in 16:38, snatching the second individual qualifier spot.
The team missed their goal of going to state but finished fourth with 86 points. Some other notable performances include Corbin Kettle in 22nd with 17:37, Ethan Thompson in 25th with 17:45, Zander Arena in 34th with 17:57, Gabe Coleman in 57th with 18:45, and Charley Roe in 59th with 18.57.
The girls cross country team qualified for state and earned Sectional Runner-Up to Sun Prairie. The Cougars finished with 64 points to Sun Prairie’s 28.
Clare Hulick lead the team with a fifth-place finish of 19:51, followed by Maddy Arrowood in 7th with a time of 20:00. Other Cougar performances include Lauren Shanks in 12th with 20:18, Ellie Lorenz in 18th with 20:34, Emily Austin in 22nd with 20:44, Ivy White in 27th with 20:55, and Ema Frick in 38th with 21:35.
The Cougars will compete on October 27th in Wisconsin Rapids at the WIAA State Championships. Live results can be found at pttiming.com
