Cross Country Big 8 Conference Championships
The Craig Cougars attended the Big 8 Conference Championships on October 13, kicking off their championship seasons. The girls Varsity placed third after Sun Prairie and Madison West, finishing with a final score of 76. The girls Varsity moved up to #6 in the state after their conference performance. The team aims to qualify for the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids, which will take place the last Saturday of October. Notable conference performances include: 9th place Maddy Arrowood (19:37), 11th place Clare Hulick (19:53), and 13th place Ellie Lorenz (19:56).
The boys Varsity finished in 6th place with 139 points among state-ranked competitors. Notably, Brian Bloomquist finished 3rd in 16:08. Also making the all-conference team was Captain Aaron Leverson in 13th place with a time of 16:32.
Both teams will compete in Kettle Moraine on October 20th in hopes of earning the title of state qualifier.
In the sectional meet in 2017, the girls Varsity placed second to Sun Prairie, while the boys Varsity missed their opportunity, but sent now sophomore Brian Bloomquist who went on to place 22nd. The girls Varsity placed 4th led by State Champion and now UW-Madison athlete Peyton Sippy.
